Abundance is a lack of feedback
Humans react to surroundings and conserve energy. In abundance, stimulus fades. Sustaining a peak requires different work than reaching it.
Everything goes in cycles because humans react to their surroundings and natural instincts of survival and conserving energy kick in. You do something and reach a state, but sustaining that state may require different action from what got you there. Feedback from the surroundings also diminishes, so the stimulus weakens.
In abundance, you stop getting feedback. Abundance is, in a way, a lack of feedback. That is why success can soften the very signals that produced discipline, and why systems need deliberate design to stay honest after they win.
