Attention is the path to the mind
What we give attention to becomes what the mind is made of. That is why distraction is not a small personal failing when it captures a generation.
Attention is the path to the brain, or more carefully, to the mind that a person ends up with. What we practise noticing, we become able to think with. What we practise scrolling past, we lose the patience to hold.
I do not mean this as a wellness slogan. I mean it as a structural claim about formation. If large numbers of young people spend their formative hours inside systems designed to capture attention for someone else’s commercial end, the public cost is not only “less productivity.” It is a different kind of mind: less able to stay with difficulty, less able to build what takes years, more available to whatever the feed rewards. Channelising youth energy starts with this fact, not after it.
