Defining success is harder than it looks
We underestimate how difficult it is even to define and know what success is. Without that clarity, effort becomes noise.
We may underestimate how difficult it is to define and know what success is. People chase metrics, titles, exits, or applause and still feel the definition slip. Without some honest account of what would count as success for a life, a project, or a region, energy scatters into activity that looks busy and does not compound.
I do not claim a single definition for everyone. I claim that the question is load-bearing, and that treating it as trivial is a common way to waste years.
