Economics needs philosophy and culture

Pure economic theories track natural instincts. Culture, knowledge, sacrifice, and responsibility change what people do. Read economics with that context.

Humans have natural instincts as primary drivers. Knowledge and enlightenment can help them do things beyond those instincts and unleash capability. Pure economic theories mostly account for the instincts. With culture, knowledge, enlightenment, sacrifice, responsibility, and philosophy, a lot of economic theories stop fitting cleanly.

Economics, in my view, has to be read always in the context of philosophy, culture, society, and theology. Adam Smith was himself a professor of moral philosophy and wrote The Theory of Moral Sentiments before The Wealth of Nations. Treating price signals as if they were the whole of human motivation is a convenient model, not a complete description of how groups actually build or decay.
