Immediate results crowd out long paths
In a world of distraction, quick money, and fame methods, long work without immediate payoff is hard to sell to many students.
In a world full of distractions, quick money, and fame methods, I am not sure what percentage of students one can convince to do work that does not have an immediate result. That is not cynicism about youth. It is an honest reading of the incentive environment they live in.
If the only visible rewards are fast and public, slow competence looks like a bad deal until someone shows a path where patience still compounds into a life worth wanting.
