Industry is part of nation building

Businesses are not only profit centres. Capable workforce requires long-term investment of time and money, and that is exactly where most hesitate.

Industries and businesses have a critical role in nation building. They should not be treated as pure profit-making centres. It is also in their own interest to build a capable workforce. The hard part is that all of this requires long-term investment of time and resources, and that is the challenge.

Governments can encourage collaboration through apprenticeships and similar schemes, but implementation in letter and spirit is complex. Industry has to step up and own the responsibility rather than wait for a perfect pipeline to arrive from elsewhere. Capability compounds where employers treat training as infrastructure, not as optional CSR theatre.
