Moral philosophy before wealth of nations

Adam Smith taught moral philosophy and wrote on moral sentiments before The Wealth of Nations. That order is not an accident for anyone who takes prosperity seriously.

It is no wonder that Adam Smith taught moral philosophy and wrote The Theory of Moral Sentiments before The Wealth of Nations. The sequence matters. An economy that pretends prosperity can be designed without a moral and social substrate is inventing a machine with no floor.

I do not reduce economics to sermons. I am saying that trust, duty, restraint, and the capacity to hold something larger than private convenience are not optional decorations around markets. They are part of what makes sustained wealth possible among people who must live together. Leadership whose philosophical roots forget that will eventually discover the cost in social fabric, not only in GDP slides.
