Pain drives; knowledge creates pain
Discomfort in many forms is the main human driver. Knowledge itself creates pain by showing the gap between what is and what could be.
Pain is a primary driver for humans. Here pain means any discomfort: boredom, anxiety, fear, hunger, tension, physical pain. Pleasure drives as well, but moonshots and large endeavours are often possible because of pain. Not reaching a pleasure you believe is possible or deserved is also a pain. While pleasure is only in the mind, the absence of it is felt as discomfort for longer.
Knowledge creates pain. It shows the gap between what is and what could be. That is not an argument against learning. It is a reminder that seriousness often begins when ignorance stops being comfortable.
