Prosperity tracks know-how the world will pay for

Why some regions are rich is as much capability as economics. Does your region have know-how the world wants and will pay well for?

“Why are some countries or regions rich” is as much an engineering and technology question as an economics one. A useful form of the question is: does your region have the know-how and capabilities the world wants and will pay well for? That is not all there is to prosperity, but it may be most of it.

In a place like Uttarakhand, ongoing efforts at economic development and employment generation are necessary and still incomplete without capability building for higher-end technology services and manufacturing. Without that layer, we keep rearranging demand while the scarce thing remains the ability to produce what others value at a high price.
