Teach before you redesign schooling

Anyone with strong opinions on education should try teaching in a school. Blame is cheap without that contact with actual challenges.

All those who have opinions on education and how schooling should be should try teaching in schools to learn what the challenges actually are. It is easy to blame schools and colleges without experiencing their constraints. Talk to teachers, or teach one day, and the neat reform thread usually meets attendance, attention, schedules, parents, and the friction of a real room.

In an age full of distractions, teaching school kids is very tough. That does not make reform unnecessary. It makes ungrounded reform unserious. Opinion without classroom contact is another form of cheap certainty.
