Technology enables experience and raises complexity
Tech lets us enjoy experiences that are hard to create. In the process, it often makes ordinary life more complex, not simpler.
Technology is enabling us to move toward enjoying experiences that are complex to create. In that process, it is increasing complexity in life. The convenience of the interface can hide the web of systems, dependencies, and expectations underneath.
I do not treat every new layer as progress by default. Some tools reduce friction. Others move friction into places we notice only when something breaks. The question is whether we are buying ease for a moment or accepting a thicker stack forever.
