Pain drives; choose discomfort deliberately
Pain is a primary driver for humans. Here pain means any discomfort: boredom, anxiety, fear, hunger, tension, physical pain. Pleasure drives as well, but moonshots and large endeavours are often possible because of pain. Not reaching a pleasure you believe is possible or deserved is also a pain.
Knowledge creates pain. It shows the gap between what is and what could be. That is not an argument against learning. It is a reminder that seriousness often begins when ignorance stops being comfortable.
The character built by suffering differs from the character built by training alone. Feeling pain and knowing about pain are not the same. Courses can name the hard parts of life. They do not substitute for the way a person reorganises after carrying real cost.
Many can see problems. Solutions will not be without pain and discomfort. Either we deliberately take that discomfort and spread it over time so it is less severe in any one moment, or it arrives on its own, with no control over when and how much. Reform that waits for a painless path is not patience. It is a preference for surprise later.
